Where do I even begin with Miami? The magic city that stole my heart in less than a minute. Where the city meets the beach in the most magical ways. The intercontinental Downtown Miami was the perfect place for a pre cruise stay for a few days as well as a great place to explore Miami.

Location and Getting There
Once we got to the hotel, we couldn’t believe how good of a location it was in. The intercontinental is located right on the waterfront and next to Bayfront Park. A MetroBus station is situated right outside the hotel, allowing great public transport access. It is only a short 20 minute taxi ride from Miami International Airport.
Double Bay View Room
During our stay here, we stayed in the double bay view room. There were three of us staying in this room and with two double beds, this room was perfect for us. Our room was incredibly spacious and provided lots of space. We had a large bathroom with a bath tub and shower. There was also a large sink area, hanging space and shelving within the bathroom as well. The room provided everything we could have needed. Including a mini fridge and plenty tea and coffee facilities, great for the morning hangovers!
The view we had over the Biscayne Bay was beautiful. As we we’re heading off on a cruise after our stay, it meant we woke up with our cruise ship right outside our window.
I do have to admit though, that whilst the hotel itself was stunningly beautiful, the rooms could do with a freshen up. Against the rest of the hotel, the rooms do look a little dated. However, it does not take away from the fact that this hotel is perfect for a short stay.
Leisure facilities
The hotel provides a beautiful rooftop pool with a bar and terrace on the same floor with views across the biscayne bay. There was also a spa which offered treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room and also a gym which you access via the spa.
Dining
The intercontinental downtown miami offers four different dining options. Toro Toro is an in house premier steak house which also offers private dining. Ole is a la carte which also offers a breakfast buffet. Next door to the rooftop pool is Bluewater offering cocktails and a full bar with views over the Biscayne Bay. Starbucks also resides within the hotel, situated within the lobby of the hotel but you can also order Starbucks to your room!
Overall
Our stay at the intercontinental downtown was incredible and just what we needed. As we we’re heading on a cruise, we extended our trip and did a pre-cruise stay here at the intercontinental downtown.
We stayed 3 nights here and loved every minute. Staying here allowed us to explore downtown and other areas of Miami. Myself and my friends even explored Aventura Mall and South Beach and accessed all areas so easily from the hotel.
The staff were friendly and helped with anything we needed. We used the pool, gym and lobby area frequently during our stay. We dined at Toro Toro and Ole as well as frequenting Starbucks on the daily. The hotel hosted amazing amenities and really ticked every box for us.
The final point to touch on is that the hotel itself was stunning. The marble decor was stunning, the communal areas within the hotel were beautifully lit with natural light and the hotels cleanliness was up there with one of the cleanest hotels I’ve stayed in. My only critique would be that the rooms are a little dated or atleast the room we stayed in was.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough, especially if your wanting a pre or post cruise stay. The closeness to the port of miami is incredible and you can reach your cruise terminal within a 5 minute taxi ride.
