location and getting there
Mollies has two locations with a third opening in Q2 of 2024. I have been fortunate to stay at both their current locations now b ut my stay this time around was at their Oxfordshire location. Located within Faringdon, the Motel is a nestled amongst the country side and not too far from the Cotswolds and Bicester Shopping Village. I was heading to Bicester which is why I chose Mollies for my stay. The motel is an on A road and suddenly amogst the country side you happen across Mollies with it’s incredible design. Mollies offers free parking with Electric Vehicle Charging so getting here is so easy if you drive.
double room
During my stay, I spent two nights in a Double Room which had more than enough space for just me. The room is so comfy and spacious yet doesn’t feel empty. The modern design compliments the aesthetic design of the room and also allows for lots of storage and comfort.
However, the rooms are designed differently. Upon walking into the room, the bathroom is on one side with a toilet and shower, along with a sliding door for privacy. On the opposite side you then have your sink and bathroom mirror which is open to the rest of the room. As you walk further into the room, the Kingsize bed was then in the center of the room and on the far side of the bed there was a small table with two chairs. On the table there was a very nice wooden box which inside had tea, coffe, milk and sugar which was complimentary. However, the room does not have a kettle.
Subtle Differences
On each floor of the motel within there are water stations. Should you want a hot or cold drink, you would need to take the cup out of your room and walk down the hallway to fill your cup. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure how I felt about this. In the room they give you everything but water to make a drink. Whilst I understand the minimal design, it seemed a little annoying that everytime you may want a drink you would have to leave your room. The motel is also a family friendly motel and I could envision someone walking down the hallway with boiling hot water and children or adults coming flying out of a room without realising. Like I say, I don’t quite understand the concept of no kettles in the room.
One other thing I noticed was that there was no mini fridge. Not that I essentially needed one but previously when I have travelled with my dad, he needs to keep his diabetic medication refridgerated. Had my dad been staying here, that would not have been possible. It’s not a major issue, but sometimes it’s the small things you notice the most. Would you say it’s a design flaw or just how Mollies do things differently?
facilities
Mollies is a motel and not your typical hotel so they do things a little different. They did not offer your typical facilities such as a gym but they did offer a beautiful co-working space which also doubles as a bar and the reception/check-in desk. Within the reception, the bar is 24 hours and they also have complimentary Tea and Coffee for motel guests. There was also 2 bikes available to rent for a fee if you wanted to cycle around the local area.
overall
My stay at Mollies was a great stay. I loved the vibe of the motel as well as the comfort. The motel is an affordable stay and it is somewhere I would stay again. However, I don’t think I would choose Mollies as somewhere to stay for more than one night. The motel has a diner on site which serves American Diner style food only. As I was staying two nights, on my second night, I didn’t want the greasy american style food for a second time. There wasn’t too much around, but I was able to get a delivery from a restaurant in a local village.
The motel has good amenities and also offers the rental of 2 bikes. However, the motel is situated along an A road and therefore you would need to be a confident rider. It also means that public transport options aren’t as nearby for those who don’t drive.
Would I stay at Mollies again? Absolutely, but I would make it a one night trip whilst maybe taking in another hotel or area. However, it caters to solo travellers, groups and families and is affordable which is the most important aspect.
