W Union Square was a brand new hotel choice to me during my last trip to New York City. But, it may be one of my new favourite hotel brands. A little further afield from the hustle and bustle of Times Square, but central to so many restaurants, bars and new york attractions.

Location and Getting There
W Union Square’s location is in the name. It’s directly in Union Square and specifically at 201 Park Avenue South. It’s a great location for bars and restaurants and if you are wanting a quieter area away from the madness of Times Square but not too far away that getting around is difficult.
Getting to the hotel, you can take a taxi but the traffic can be a little slow going down Park Avenue. The subway is a great option as the 14 Street Union Square Station is across the road from the hotel.

spectacular guest room – 1 king & 2 doubles
During our stay at the W Union Square we ended up staying in two different rooms. Our original room was a Spectacular Room with 1 King Bed. The room was one of the biggest rooms I’ve seen in New York City. The room had really high ceilings which just made the room feel even bigger. The bathroom wasn’t big but it was very spacious and had more than enough room for the two of us. The closet was very roomy as well which is always great!

The day after check in after talking to some of the staff, they very kindly upgraded us to a 2 double bed room. Me and my friend always prefer our own beds when travelling but sometimes budgets restrict us to a room with one bed. The staff were so friendly and so kind and we both slept SO well in our new room. It’s always nice to have your own space and stretch out.
Leisure Facilities
The hotel does offer their own gym complimentary when you stay at the hotel. the facilities are open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Luckily enough we did enough walking and steps whilst seeing the sights of New York that we didn’t need the gym but its handy to have.
Dining
Unfortunately during our stay the hotel was undergoing renovations which meant their bar: The Living Room was closed. It also meant that they could not offer any drinks beverages of any form apart from complimentary bottled water in the rooms which was refreshed daily. As much as I would have loved to see the night life and “vibe” that the W brand is famous for, we didn’t get the chance on this occasion.
Overall
Honestly, I loved my stay at the W Union Square. I loved being away from the madness of times square whilst also still being central to everything. It was a lot more relaxed and great to see so many independent cafes, bars and restaurants around the hotel.
The staff were incredible and nothing was too much trouble which I think makes all the difference. Whilst I was a little dissapointed that the hotels dining facilites couldnt be utilised, it also didn’t affect the stay that much in all honesty. I would definitelt stay there again and I would recommend it to anyone! It was the first hotel with a full length mirror! Bonus points for that!
