Hello! It’s been a while since I last blogged about anything but today I am here because the lovely Steff from Steff’s Journey, nominated me for the blogger recognition award! I’ve been going through quite a tough time at the minute so this came as a huge shock but it was the nicest shock to get! So I just wanted to say thank you very much Steff, I’ve never been nominated for anything before so this was a first and I appreciate it very much!!
Why did you start blogging?
This blog for me was this small idea to write an online diary. As I’ve gone through my teenage years, I’ve always written diaries and journals in order to express my feelings. Putting pen to paper has always been somewhat therapeutic to me.
A few years ago, when I started university, I treated myself to a MacBook. I’d wanted one for years and I’d finally saved up enough before heading to university to get one so I could type notes when in lectures and do all my work on it. My MacBook then became my best friend and I use it for everything. It’s my notebook, journal, diary, organiser, just everything rolled into one!
My own paper journals took a back seat and two years on I realised I hadn’t written in a while. I had this little lightbulb moment of “what if everyone else thinks the same crazy things I do?” so I decided to start Honestly Han to share whatever was going on in my life and write about the things I love. It wasn’t to start a business or become Insta-Famous, but it was simply somewhere safe to rant and complain or express myself about the things I love.
Therefore, Honestly Han was created and here you are reading about me and my little life and journey. Whilst I don’t blog daily or weekly, I blog when it feels right and when I get time. I work part time and I’m currently writing my dissertation so my blog right now is just a hobby, but its one I’m loving!
2 pieces of advice for new bloggers
The first piece of advice I would give future bloggers is that you have to learn that you don’t have to do everything the same way as other bloggers. Your blogging schedule shouldn’t be the same as everyone else’s and you should hold yourself to the same standard as bloggers who blog for a living and there livelihood is just their blog. Your blog and how you work it and what you write about is what will make you stand out, not how much you blog or how well you do it.
The second piece of advice I would give is that social media is important, especially twitter in my opinion. Twitter is the best place to self promote but to also connect with other bloggers. The blogging community on twitter is so amazing that it really is vital that you immerse yourself within that community in order to connect and not just to self promote! I haven’t really gotten the hang of instagram yet and I don’t really think Instagram is as good as twitter but thats up to the individual. Pinterest is the second piece of social media that I tend to use and I do love it! Pinning your own blog posts and using the other features of Pinterest to draw in views and readers is also such a good platform to be on and Pinterest is great even if you don’t use it for your blog.
