SO, I’ve been trying to write this blog post for a while since i came back from London just over a week ago actually and i haven’t been able to decipher my favourite moments from my weekend away. For those who read my last blog post, i went down to London with my closest friends for my 21st birthday and it was honestly the most amazing and fun weekend.
We travelled down to London on the train in the early evening and my friends surprised me and brought two bottles of wine and a bottle of Prosecco!! Its safe to say that all three bottles went down far too nicely and it started the weekend wonderfully!
When we got to London we headed straight for our hotel to get checked in and we stayed at the beautiful and amazing, Hilton London Metropole! Its right near Hyde Park and it was located just opposite a tube station which made travelling round London so much easier! The hotel was gorgeous and huge! There was 3 different wings to the hotel! We stayed in the West Wing because we stayed in a bigger room, which was one of the nicest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in.
The hotel really was gorgeous and our room was so spacious! We decided to stay in on Friday night as we didn’t get to our hotel till around 8.30pm so we put our pyjamas on and got Dominos delivered to our hotel room which was just so weird but so good! Never before have i had dominos ordered to a hotel room so it definitely was an experience!
The following morning we woke up bright and early and headed out for a day of exploring, we started our day in Leicester square having breakfast at this cute little Italian place. We then walked over to Covent Garden to all the markets and spent so long there. I think covent garden is my favourite place in London. Its just always so vibrant and busy and full of so many different things in the markets, and there is always someone performing in the square there which i just love! After taking in everything in Covent Garden and buying one too many christmas baubles, we headed over to Trafalgar square. I always love the walk from Covent Garden down to Trafalgar square, past the savoy hotel and theatre, the Adelphi theatre and past all the different shops on the strand.
After a stroll down the Strand and around Trafalgar square we hopped on a tube over to Winter Wonderland! It was honestly SO MUCH FUN! We shopped round the markets, ate chocolate crepes, and went on one too many rollercoasters! I screamed so much on the rides i lost my voice a little.. I promise I’m not a wuss..
That night my friends surprised me with a lovely meal and drinks in this cute little cocktail bar/restaurant, Mabels! Its just next to covent garden and it was so much fun. It’s a cocktail bar and restaurant but it also has a ‘den’ downstairs that turns into a nightclub later in the evening which was so nice to go down there after our meal and have a little boogie! They made the evening so special by getting me a little sash to wear which got me a few free drinks, surprising me with the nicest meal in the loveliest place and just made me feel so special the whole night. It really was the most amazing and fun weekend and I’m incredibly thankful for my friends!
On Sunday we had a very lazy morning as we had quite a late check out time, so we took our time as we were a little hungover from the night before and slowly made our way out! We spent Sunday just roaming around London. We had brunch in Leicester Square and walked round the Christmas markets there too.
We then made our way to the wonderfully vibrant Camden, whilst also losing one of the girls whilst making our way there.. It was a nightmare but we all got reunited eventually! Camden was vibrant, funky and different as usual full of all the weird and wonderful yet quirky things its markets has to offer! We walked round for about 2 hours, stopping for some Dutch mini pancakes along the way, which I must say were to die for! My friend even got her brother a vintage 1940’s camera for Christmas which is definitely going to be an amazing present!
Once we were done in Camden and after our late start to the day, and the catastrophe of losing one another on the tube somehow, it was time to head back to our hotel to grab our bags and head home! It really made me quite sad that our trip was already over but I was ready to head back home and continue the birthday celebrations with my family.
I will always treasure that trip/weekend away with my best friends because it truly was such a fun and magical weekend. We all work together in a 24 hour drive thru Starbucks and with us all at university and doing different things all the time it’s sometimes quite hard to spend quality time together so I definitely appreciated the weekend with them a little more than normal!
I really would recommend going away with your friends for a birthday rather than doing a night out. You make so many more memories and you end up spending more time together and it’s just valued so much more!
London will always be a special place to me and I’m so thankful I got to spend a weekend there with a few of my favourite people for a special birthday!
With that, I shall leave you with a few of my favourite photos from the weekend and I’ll see you all soon!
Love Han xo
